A tribute to the scooter in the true vintage style

Today in the afternoon, the Barcelona Motorcycle Museum has opened its new temporary exhibition: Scooters, 100 years of urban motorcycles (1916-2016). A well deserved tribute to this kind of motorcycle born in the 20s, which became popular in the 50s and consolidating its position today as the market leader. It has became a decoration element in every city, specially in Barcelona, where more than 300,000 units ride daily around.

Two funny characters from the 60s have welcomed over 100 attendees at the opening ceremony, among them collectors cessioning exhibition units, enthusiasts and several actual motorcycle brand representatives, such as Albert Cavero from Montesa-Honda or Alex Lopez, business director from the Catalan brand Rieju.

The exhibition, divided in 4 different areas allows the public to discover the origins of this kind of motorcycles and their evolution. It became a true revolution in terms of personal mobility and one of the best solutions to traffic jams. Visitors can compare between different pioneering models, as ABC Skotamota from 1920, with futuristic touches, or a Honda Super Cub from 1970, the bestseller in the history as 90 million of units were produced.

The mythical Vespa and Lambretta were by no means the first motorcycles ever, but in fact they were the ones that converted scooters in a global phenomenon. That is the reason why the Motorcycle Museum has dedicated a special area where visitors can see the first Vespa sold in Barcelona in 1953. Dali printed his own signature on this motorcycle with lipstick. Another example is the personalized mod style Lambretta. An interesting selection of scooters made in Europe as for example the amazing KTM Mirabell from 1957, transferred to the museum by KTM headquarters, compose the third area of this exhibition. There are as well some models of brands producing in Spain, which became practically unknown to the large public: Husor, Iruña, Rondine Scooter, Rieju Isard, Montesa Microscooter, Derbi Scotmatic,...

Finally, a funny photocall offers to the public the possibility to travel back in time and convert themselves in the main characters of the exhibition in the purest vintage style. A pleasant and interesting exhibition for everybody. Open until March 2017.
